The Dating of Ancient Trail

Hiking & Gourmet Trip

<about The Caoling Historic Trail> The Caoling Historic Trail follows an old path between Danshui and Yilan and passes through the mountainous areas of northeast Taiwan. The trail was the only route connecting Taipei and Yilan to the eastern part of the country during the Qing Dynasty, and was also notorious for raids by bandits on businessmen traveling over the mountains. The current trail is around 8.5 kilometers long and passes through the mountainous areas between Gongliao and Toucheng. The nearest train stations to the two ends of the trail are Gongliao and Tali. It takes about two to three hours to hike along the entire path. Along the trekking route of the trail that begins in Fudeh Temple, Yuanwangken, in Gongliao, the trip takes one by the border of 2 counties and the main attractions are Clear Mountain Creek, Fudeh Temple, Dominating Monument, Tiger Monument and the Observatory. The trip ends up at the Dali Tourist Information Center for the Caoling Ancient Trail.

<Delicate Taiwanese Food - Shiyang Shanfang>
If you are looking for a restaurant with quiet space and exquisite food, there is Shiyang Shanfang(
食養山房). Different from the other Chinese restaurants you find in Taipei, this restaurant serves its own special version of different Taiwanese dishes, including Lotus Stew, Handmade Peanut Tofu, and taro Paste. The restaurant itself is absolutely beautiful. The dining rooms, divided into three sections are on the periphery of the area. The decoration here bases on the “Spirit of Natural” and “Zen ()” , and the dishes surprise you one after another. In praise of slow, you will discover the natural beauty here.

Where Mountains Meet the Sea –
The Northeast Coast
a place where you can enrich your spirit with the wisdom of the mountains…

<About NE Coast> The Northeast Coast National Scenic Area hugs the narrow corridor between Taiwan's eastern mountain range and the sea. It comprises a narrow belt of coastline, running 66 kilometers in length. The northern section of the coastline looks out onto the East China Sea and the eastern section faces the Pacific. The Northeast Coast terrain features both mountainous and coastal landscapes. It covers almost 10,000 hectares of interior land and, from Bitou Cape to Sandiao Cape, almost 4,500 hectares of coastline – with a grand total of nearly 14,000 hectares of natural beauty for you to enjoy.

<About Jingguashi>
Jinguashi was once a booming gold and copper
mining town. However, times change and once prosperous industries fade. That doesn't mean that they no longer hold value. In 2002, Jinguashi was named a potential World Heritage site. As this park shows, old mining facilities can be transformed into a premier recreational destination, with many of the park's original buildings being re-used as exhibition space. The grassy hills of Jinguashi overlook Taiwan's northern coastline and the South China Sea and provide a great place to get away and do nothing at all.

Meet Ancient Art

<About Sanshia Zushi Temple>
The culture center, “Sanshia”, is highly valued in culture and has many traditional artisans. The scenery spots include Zushi Temple, Li Mei-Shu Memorial Hall, and White Chicken Art Village. The three spots are filled with private cultural artifacts. Zushi Temple with dedicated engravings and complicated columns has also won itself the name of "Art Palace". Besides Zushi Temple, Sanshia Bridge, Shangdigong Temple, ancient tablets, memorial tablets, ancient battlefield, old street, old farmers' association building, and historical artifacts museum are worthy of appreciation. After visiting the ancient remains of Sanshia, visitors can taste fish dishes at Shimen Reservoir, see the whole landscape of the reservoir, and take a ride of the boat. They can also go to Amuping by boat and have B.B.Q. The amusement areas nearby like Dragon Pearl Bay Holiday Centre, Fairyland, Window of China, and Leofoo Village Amusement Park are worthy of visiting, too.

<About San-Shia Old Street>

“Sanshia Old Street” generally refers to the southern section of Minquan St., and is about 200 meters long. The buildings have stood since the earliest period of the Republic of China. Various words on the building fronts represent surnames, names, and shop names, and their signage is very different from today. The buildings are equipped with magnificent verandahs, which are the most impressive parts of the buildings along this street. Their decorated archways are rich in culture and they play a valuable role in reminding people of the need to preserve historical relics. The outer walls of the buildings are built with red brick, while the inner walls were made of clay. The outer parts of the buildings are decorated with a variety of patterns, and in particular the second-floor windowsills, making them more beautiful. There are many with traditional Chinese patterns, animal motifs, and even foreign patterns. Opposite Minquan St. is a smaller wall, known for its unique styling, featuring solid, hollow, and framed styles of decoration.

<About Yingge Ceramics Museum>

The Yingge Ceramics Museum was opened on November 26, 2000. Its establishment cost NT$6 billion, as part of a plan to rejuvenate the town and attract tourism. This blueprint also included a major facelift for what is now informally called Old Pottery Street, a section of Jianshanpu Rd lined with businesses selling ceramic works of both practical and decorative function, and the developing of the adjacent Yingge Ceramics Park, with its eyecatching works of contemporary art. The three-story steel-framed glass building house of the museum is as striking as the exhibits inside, reached from the busy road by crossing a wide bridge over an elaborate water-art feature. The exhibitions of the museum comprehensively cover the surprisingly wide number of applications for which ceramics are used. While stepping into the first hall, you will see not only lots of exquisite vases, plates, and other ornaments, but also the remaining galleries which are devoted to the history, production, and the use of ceramics. Actually, these displays will keep grasping visitors' attention with their surprising diversity. So, this is definitely a best place to embrace the beauty of ceramics.

<Yingge Ceramics Blvd” & Ceramics DIY>
Yingge is known as a global center of pottery industry. It owns the name of "Taiwanese Jing De Jen". There's a variety of pottery here, the types are so plenty which make Yingge to be the unique "City of Pottery" in the world. The pottery old street is positioned in the cross of Jhongjhen Rd. and Jianshanpu St. The Jhongjhen first Rd. and Jhongshan Rd. with pottery shops is the commercial center of Yingge as well as the old street. The shops which sell and produce potteries get together closely. In the "Pottery Festival" during summer vacation, the abundance and the diversity of pottery is revealed through dynamic demonstration, exhibition, and multi-media introduction. Sometimes people can do the pottery themselves and experience the pleasant. Besides visiting pottery shops, visitors can also go to Bi-long Temple and see the richly ornamented building. They can also walk on the hiking path beside the temple which connects the eagle-like giant rock and Sun-bin Temple, and enjoy the natural views of forest along the path.

Cultural Taiwan

Conversation between Old and New…

<About Baoan Temple>Baoan Temple (保安宮) has long been at the forefront of efforts to give traditional Taiwanese culture national and international relevance. The temple itself is one of the finest pieces of traditional architecture to be found in Taiwan, and its restoration has earned it plaudits from around the world. This Taoist temple is dedicated to the god of medicine. Built in 1830, it has quite a fascinating history. Early immigrants from Fujien Province brought the statue of the god to Taiwan in the late 18th century. During the Japanese occupation of Taiwan, the temple was used as a language school and factory. After the Japanese discontinued their use of the site, it was neglected until it was finally refurbished in the early 1900s.

<About Taipei Confucius Temple>
The Confucius Temple is an embodiment of Confucian culture in architecture. The largest and oldest Confucius Temple in China is located in Confucius' hometown in present-day Chufu, Shantung Province. For over 2,000 years, this temple has gradually evolved into its current magnificence and size and serves as the blueprint for all other Confucian temples.The Confucian temple in Talungtung in Taipei was founded during the Ch'ing dynasty and renovated in 1927. Its main structures include the Ta Cheng Hall, Ten Thousand Fathom Wall, Pan Pond, Ling Hsing Gate, Gate of Rites, Sage Worship Altar, Ming Lun Hall, Chu Tze Alter, Kui Hsing Gate (after the God of Literature), and the Wu Sheng Shrine. Every year on Teachers' Day, a solemn ceremony is held according to ancient rites called the "Confucius Memorial Service," and is attended by Chinese and foreign visitors.

<About DinTaiFung> DinTaiFung established its reputation and have been highly praised by the media including being selected as one of the top ten restaurants in the world by the “New York Times”. It has also been voted as the most favored dining place by political and commercial celebrities and is one of the must-see places for national and international stars. DinTaiFung is not only successful in the Japanese market but also in other cities like Shanghai and Hong Kong. The success of DinTaiFung does not end here and the legend is still continuing. More than a third of DinTaiFung’s sales volume is generated from the Japanese market. Even when the lines are long, diners still wait patiently to be seated. The waiting crowd has also brought fortune to nearby shops.

<About Taipei 101>
An outstanding la
ndmark is enough to transform a city, e.g. the Empire State Building in New York City, the Eiffel Tower in Paris, or the new Jinmao Mansion in Shanghai. In the 21st century, Taipei needs a more expansive stage for a more brilliant performance. 101 stories above ground and 5 stories below, the 508-meter-tall Taipei 101 is an engineering feat that’s expected to bring Taipei to the world.  Located in the finest district--the Hsinyi Planned District Taipei has to offer, TAIPEI 101 is the largest engineering project ever in the history of the Taiwan construction business.

Free Technical Visiting Schedules (May 15, 2008)

We prepared free technical schedule for participants who are interested in visiting electrochemical-related companies. It is definitely a good opportunity to know more about Taiwan’s industry.

 Route: Visiting the industries in Hsinchu Science Park

Science parks are established to introduce high-tech industries and attract talent to Taiwan, promote the upgrading of Taiwanese industries, balance regional development and drive national economic development. One of three science parks existing in northern, central and southern Taiwan, the Hsinchu Science Park (HSP) is primarily focused on semiconductors; meanwhile, the Central Taiwan Science Park is focused on aviation, precision machinery, and optoelectronics, while the Southern Taiwan Science Park is focused on optoelectronics. Consequently, each of these science parks possesses its own respective core technological advantages.

Since the HSP was established in December 1980, the government has invested US$1,679 million on park infrastructure and facilities. A total of 384 high-tech companies had been established in the park by the end of 2004, a total of 632 hectares had been developed for the HSP proper, plus an additional 141 hectares for the Jhunan Park. During its 24 year history, the HSP has focused both on research and production, thus profoundly impacting the local economic development and giving the HSP an international reputation and establishing it as a model imitated by other countries.
